Polson 7th after first day of mat action

BUTTE - Polson is sitting seventh in the team standings after first-day action Friday at the Class A state wrestling tournament at the Butte Civic Center.

The Pirates scored 52 1/2 points to lead all Northwestern A schools at the event.

Corvallis is the team leader, 109, with Belgrade second, 98 1/2.

Ronan, 52 1/2, is in 11th place followed by Libby/Troy, 35, 14th; Columbia Falls, 33, 15th; and Whitefish, six, 20th.

Polson advanced three wrestlers to the semfinals - Craig Feistner (112), Mike Devlin (152) and Josiah Clairmont (heavyweight).

Ronan also has three semifinalists - Cole McArthur (171), Toby Cheff (189) and Colby Roberts (215).

Columbia Falls has two semifinalists in Sal Baccaro (119) and Justin Whitman(125). Libby has also advanced a pair of wrestlers to the semis in Kyle Leir (140) and Dylan Berget (160).

HAMILTON - Eureka's Taylor Vaughn won by pin in his first two matches at 171 pounds on Friday to advance to today's semifinal round of the Class B state wrestling tournament.

Eureka's Nikko Bakkila (112) fell in the quarterfinals.

Vaughn and Bakkila won divisional titles last week.

Eureka's divisional runner-up - Colin Gillard (215) - lost in the first round.

Trent Vaughn (119), Curtis McDuffie (152), David Wilson (171) and Michael Wilson (189) also lost in the first round.

Eureka is 13th in the team standings with 33 points.

Forsyth leads after the opening day with a 95.5 total.

Glasgow is next with 80.
