The resignation of John Engebretson has opened a position in the Flathead/Glacier High School District on the Board of Trustees of Flathead Valley Community College.

Engebretson has served nearly 20 years on the board, including nine terms as chairman.

In 2009, he received the college’s Eagle Award for his dedicated service, attending nearly every college event, foundation meetings, legislative hearings, college community conversations along with reviewing scholarship applications.

President Jane Karas credited him with shaking every students’ hand at commencements and using his wisdom to help grow the college from four building on 40 acres in 1990 to a 209-acre campus with seven state-of-the-art facilities.

No reason was announced for Engebretson’s decision to step down.

Interested candidates may submit letters of application to fill the vacant trustee position until the May 2011 election.

The candidate who wins the election serves the remaining years of the three-year term that ends in May 2013.

Letters must be received at the President’s Office, Flathead Valley Community College, 777 Grandview Drive, Kalispell, MT  59901 by noon on Friday, March 4.  To qualify for the position, candidates must be registered voters in Flathead County and live in the Flathead/Glacier High School District.

The board will interview Interested applicants on March 14. A press release from the college said the board of trustees reserves the right to reject any or all applicants.
