Whitefish girls pick up 1st win

RONAN - Whitefish outscored Ronan 13-8 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 36-31 Northwestern A girls basketball victory on Thursday.

The Bulldogs, who had lost 10 straight games, and Ronan were tied 23-all after three periods.

Whitefish (1-3 league) was led by Olivia Curtiss' nine points. Olivia Nagler was next with seven.

Whitefish plays at Libby on Saturday.

LIBBY - Jaime Gilden matched Eureka in scoring with a 24-point performance to power Libby to an easy nonconference victory.

Gilden cashed in at the free-throw line, sinking 8 of 14 attempts.

Libby led 22-14 at the half.

POLSON - Breanne Kelley scored all 12 of her points in the fourth quarter as Polson defeated Hamilton in a nonconference outing.

Polson (7-4) outscored Hamilton 23-10 in the final period.

Riley Kenney finished with a double-double for Polson, scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Mackenzie Banner added 12 points for Polson, who has won four straight.

Hamilton hit seven straight treys to open the contest. The Broncs led 25-20 at the half.

Polson hosts Stevensville on Saturday in another nonleague outing.

THOMPSON FALLS - Columbia Falls doubled the score on Thompson Falls in the opening quarter and rolled from there to post a 13-point nonconference victory.

Columbia Falls led 32-20 at the break.

Hope Burlage led the Wildkats with 21 points. Jonna Werner was next with 12.

Columbia Falls is back in action Saturday at Class AA Missoula Big Sky.

HAMILTON - Louis Mohr scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the final half as Polson crushed Hamilton in Class A nonconference play.

Mohr was 6-for-6 from the free throw line, all in the final half.

Kyle Bagnell added 17 points for Polson.

Polson continues with nonconference action on Saturday at Stevensville.
