Former champion Robb Bergeson took the lead in the men's division during the second day of the Earl Hunt Memorial Fourth of July Golf Tournament at the Whitefish Lake Golf Club Friday.

Bergeson, who took the Fourth of July title in 2007, jumped ahead of first day leader Ryan Porch of Kalispell after shooting a 69 for a two-day total of 142.

It was the best 18 holes by any golfer so far at this year's tournament.

Meanwhile, Bozeman resident Rikka Holiday seemed poised to run away with the ladies' division championship after posting a two-day total of 152, a full 12 strokes ahead of second place Emily Slayton and 14 strokes better than Chelsea Ray of Whitefish.

She shot a 78 Friday after posting a 74 to start the tournament.

Porch is now tied for second with Libby's Jim Mee at 146 strokes after leading on day one.

Porch shot a 76 Friday while Mee matched his first day score of 73 to pull into second.

Behind them is fellow Kalispell golfer Graham Schmaltz who is in a tie for fifth with a score of 149. Whitefish's Mike Watson is just a stroke off Schmaltz pace with a two-day total of 150.

2001 winner Spencer Williams of Great Falls is in 15th place after posting a 77.

Three time Fourth of July Tournament winner Dave Morberg is in 26th place after shooting an 84 for a 36-hole total of 160 strokes.

New champions will be crowned in both the men's and women's divisions at the conclusion of play Saturday as 2010 winners Darrah Newell and Jake Wagner didn't sign up this year.

A long drive contest will also be held today. Spectators are welcome.
