Lakers third at Sapa-Johnsrud tourney
WHITEFISH - Louis Freudenburg and Alex Eaves turned in three hits apiece and the Kalispell Lakers rallied past Apple Valley 12-8 on Sunday to finish third in the 27th annual Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament.
The Lakers led 7-4 after three innings, but Apple Valley rallied in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.
It didn't last long.
Dillon Matteson tied the game with one out - he had a great read on a ground ball and hustled home from third. The Lakers then went ahead on a throwing error.
"We were able to take advantage of some key errors in the seventh and some key hits," said Lakers coach Ryan Malmin.
"The lineup one through nine did a great job of putting the bat on the ball."
The Lakers had 14 hits overall.
Lewis Freudenburg did a great job for us in relief," the coach added. "He gave up two runs and shut the door in the seventh inning," he said.
The Lakers play host at 5 p.m. to Lethbridge at Griffin Field.
