The city of Whitefish has begun a five- to six-week project to replace or rehabilitate underground sewer mains throughout the city.

In some cases, such as on Woodland Place west of Wisconsin Avenue, the sewer main is being dug up and replaced, City Manager Chuck Stearns said. In other cases city workers will use a “cured-in-place” process, wherein a resin liner is fed into the sewer main through a manhole and then heated and adhered to the underground pipe to seal out leaks without having to dig it up.

The cured-in-place projects will begin Monday, July 18,  and will be done in various areas throughout the city in the following four weeks. Information door hangers should be placed in neighborhoods in advance of any work that might temporarily affect sewer usage, Stearns said.
