Where there's smoke, there's not always fire

Firefighters and Kalispell Police Department officers were sent to a report of a structure fire on West Northview Loop at 4:55 p.m. Sunday.The caller told police there was smoke coming from the rafters of a house, but no flames.

Officers found a barbecue was occurring in the neighborhood, generating the smoke, but no house fire.Kalispell officers also dealt with several lost and found wallets and purses on Saturday and Sunday.

A person reported a wallet and cellphone stolen from a residence on Woodland Park Drive at 5:08 p.m. Saturday. The wallet was later turned in to police, but the phone was still missing.A jacket, purse and cellphone were stolen from a car that was broken into at 8:23 p.m. Saturday on Heritage Way.

Two purses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Airport Road at 9:28 p.m. Saturday. They were found in a garbage can near Woodland Park at 8:16 a.m. Sunday and the finder turned them into police.Another found wallet was taken to police at 3:19 p.m. Saturday and returned to the owner’s daughter.

A tree fell into the road in the 700 block of First Avenue East, blocking traffic. Residents were cutting up the tree and clearing the road, but drivers complained nonetheless at 7:04 p.m. Saturday.A basketball hoop was reported to be blocking the intersection of Garland Street and Sherry Lane at 8:15 a.m. Saturday. The same caller told police an overgrown bush at the intersection of Garland Street and Three Mile Drive was interfering with drivers’ vision.

A firearm was reported stolen on Third Avenue West at 7:49 p.m. Saturday.A boat, reported stolen from a home on First Avenue West, was found on 11th Street West. The folks on 11th Street West claimed they’d retrieved the boat from the dump, but the registered owners disagreed. It was returned to its rightful owner at 9:04 p.m. Saturday.

A GPS was reported stolen from an auto on Merganser Drive at 5:26 p.m. Saturday.A caller reported fireworks were being set off on Garland Street at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a trespass on Vista Lane in Bigfork at 4:17 a.m. Sunday.Criminal mischief was reported on Poplar Drive in Kalispell at 2:32 a.m. Sunday.

A burglary was reported at 12:23 a.m. Sunday on First Avenue South in Martin City.Officers from the Whitefish Police Department investigated a theft report on East Second Street at 12:05 p.m. Sunday.

A report of fraud was made to the WPD at 7:38 a.m. Sunday.A verbal disturbance was filed with the WPD at 10:02 a.m. Saturday.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary on U.S. 93 at 1:28 p.m. Saturday. Deputies responded to a report of disorderly conduct on Skookum Lane at 12:27 a.m. Saturday.

The Polson Police Department received a report of vandalism at a flower shop at 4:50 a.m. Saturday and a report of disorderly conduct at 9 p.m. Saturday on Hillcrest Drive.
