A Kalispell man was convicted of sexual assault on a minor Thursday in Flathead County District Court, but the jury found him not guilty of sexual intercourse without consent.

Joseph James Boyes, 38, was found guilty of the first charge after a four-day trial in District Judge Stewart Stadler’s court. The jury deliberated most of the day Thursday.

Boyes was accused of having sexual relations with a 10-year-old girl between September 2009 and March 2010. The charge of sexual assault carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term of not less than four years or more than 100 years and a fine of up to $50,000.

Sentencing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 25 in Stadler’s court.
