Norris E. Woerner, 93

Norris E. Woerner, 93, of Rollins, died of natural causes at The Villa Rosa in Sahuarita, Ariz., on July 25, 2011.

Norris was born in Adrian, Mich., July 20, 1918, to August and Opal Woerner. He attended local public schools and Adrian College.

On Oct. 20, 1941, he married Mary Custis in New Haven, Ind. They lived in Angola, Ind., for the next two years as he attended Tri-State College, earning a bacholer's degree in chemical engineering.

Following military service in the Navy during World War II and using the  G.I. Bill, he earned a master’s degree in meteorology from Cal Tech in Pasadena, Calif. The next 29 years were spent in National Weather Service offices in San Francisco and Bakersfield, Calif., and Great Falls and Billings. He served  as metorologist-in-charge in Billings.

Norris and Mary retired to Rollins in 1977, enjoying the amenities of Flathead Lake and wintering in Green Valley, Ariz.

Norris was a member of the American Meteorological Society, Elks Club, and active in Boy Scouts of America.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Olive Woerner; his two brothers, LaVerne and Raymond Woerner; his sister, Ruth Shaw; and dear friend, Thelma Judge.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Rowland, of Billings; son, John, of Prineville, Ore.; six grandchildern and 12 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and funeral services are under the care of Adair Funeral Homes-Avalon Chapel 8090 N. Northern Ave., in Tucson, Ariz.; (520) 742-7901.
