Whitefish ready to roll for BikeFish next week
Whitefish celebrates BikeFish June 5-12, a week dedicated to the bike and benefiting Fish Trails, the Whitefish pedestrian and bike path network.
Join in for bike to work, trail tours, bike polo, a bike-in movie, children’s games, races and more. All events, except for the sanctioned races and Fun Run, are free and open to all ages.
“We’re looking forward to bringing more awareness to cycling and to the extensive network of trails we have here in Whitefish,” says Don Spivey, Fish Trails Advisory Committee member.
Schedule of events
Sunday, June 5 — Fun Run and Fish Trails 5K, noon, City Beach. The majority of the course will use the Fish Trails system; www.fishtrails.com
Monday, June 6 — Bike to work and school day.
Tuesday, June 7 — Farmers Market, 5 to 7:30 p.m., north end of Central Avenue. Booths from local bike organizations and businesses will have displays and information.
Wednesday, June 8 — Guided tour of Whitefish Trail (formerly the Trail Runs Through It), 6 p.m., Grouse Mountain tennis courts
Wednesday and Thursday, June 8-9 — Explore the Fish Trails and the Whitefish Trail on guided rides; 6 p.m. Depot Park.
Thursday, June 9 — Bike Polo event, 6 p.m., behind Whitefish Middle School.
Friday, June 10 — Bike-in movie, 7 p.m. The films “Breaking Away” and “The Triplets of Belleville” will be shown at the Stumptown Ice Den. Show up on your bike.
Saturday, June 11 — All Saturday events are at Depot Park. Kids’ bike rodeo, 9 a.m. to noon; Great Northern Criterium race, 9 a.m.; children’s race, 11 a.m.; Bike parade, noon. Children should be there by 11 a.m. to decorate their bikes; time trial: 3:30 p.m., Big Mountain Road.
There also will be a raffle drawing at noon. Items include a bike from Glacier Cyclery, children’s bike from Great Northern Cycles, bike-lift access season passes from Whitefish Mountain Resort, airplane ride with David Hunt, Whitefish Lake golf and lunch for four, and more. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10, available at the Parks Department or from any Fish Trails committee member. All proceeds from raffle ticket sales go toward building and maintaining the bike/pedestrian trails in Whitefish.
Sunday, June 12 — Circuit Race, 9 a.m. Lodgepole Road at Twin Bridges.
Mountain bike tours with the Flathead Fat Tires at Pig Farm. Meet at Grouse Mountain tennis courts at noon.
