Don’t let the rain fool you: Summer vacation has arrived in the Flathead Valley.

Several local schools already are out for the summer. The rest will wrap up by the end of the week.

Today is the last day of school for students in Bigfork, Evergreen, Kalispell, Marion, Olney-Bissell, Pleasant Valley, Smith Valley, Swan River and Whitefish.

Some children have to stay in class a little longer.

Students at Lakeside Elementary, Somers Middle School and St. Matthew’s Parish School wrap up the school year Friday. They are the last students in the Flathead to get out of school for summer vacation.

Need further proof that summer has arrived?

Woodland Water Park in Kalispell is scheduled to open Friday.

The pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m. daily, with some provisos. The water park will close if there is a thunderstorm. And open swim — offered from noon to 4 p.m. daily and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday — will be closed if there are fewer than 30 swimmers by 30 minutes into the session.

Those interested in swimming lessons or classes may sign up at 10 a.m. Friday. Woodland Water Park offers several two-week sessions for swimmers of all ages.

Swimming lessons and classes begin June 20. Public and private swimming lessons are offered; prices range from $18 to $36. Kalispell residents get a discount if they pick up a city resident ID card at the Parks and Recreation Office, 306 First Ave. E.
