Lakers split with Great Falls; Twins, Loggers lose

istorese threw a 1-hitter to help the Kalispell Lakers split with Great Falls on Friday in Class AA American Legion baseball play.

Pistorese and the Lakers claimed a 6-0 victory in the second game.

Sidney Schenck also looked sharp on the mound for the Lakers, holding Great Falls to just four hits in the opener. But the hosts pulled out a 2-1 victory.

"Sid Schenck and Joe Pistorese threw incredibly well for us," Lakers coach Ryan Malmin said.

"Sid went six innings and Joe went seven. They allowed one free pass each. They spotted up well. changed speeds well. I'm really happy with both performances."

Kalispell (17-6 overall, 2-2 league) hosts Missoula on Sunday at 1 p.m.

WHITEFISH - Steven DeYoung hit a grand slam in the second inning and finished with five RBI as Missoula dropped Glacier in a Class AA league contest.

DeYoung's two-out blast to center field broke a scoreless tie.

Missoula pitcher Andrew Sopko held Glacier to five hits.

"He's one of the better arms in the state," Glacier coach Lindsay Fansler said.

"He was able to hold our bats down."

Glacier (15-11, 1-2) continues with league play with a doubleheader today at Great Falls starting at 2 p.m.

Bitterroot 5, Libby 4

The Bitterroot Bucs held on to defeat the Libby Loggers in Class A nonconference play.

"Missed opportunities," Libby coach Kelly Morford said.

"(Jared) Winslow tripled in the ninth with one out, but we couldn't get him in."

That would have tied the contest.

Libby outhit Bitterroot 6-5 and played a cleaner game on the field with just one error. The host Bucs had five.

The Loggers and Bucs were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but wet field conditions forced a late start and cancellation of the second game.

Libby (14-11) plays a doubleheader today at the Bitterroot Red Sox, starting at 1 p.m.
