Larry Edward Torgersen, 68, of Whitefish, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2011.

Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his childhood in Koosharem, Utah, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Everett F. Larson. He served from 1960 to 1963.

He spent much of his civilian life working as an auto mechanic at shops in Arizona and in Whitefish, where he worked for Stacey Oil Company until his retirement, when the shop closed.

Larry loved living in the mountains of western Montana and enjoying the outdoors. He especially liked spending time in and around Glacier National Park. He enjoyed reading, tinkering with cars and spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bea Torgersen; his brother, Ted Torgersen; and his wife, Marilynn (Keans) Torgersen.

He is survived by his children, his daughter, Terrie and husband, Sven Peterson, and grandchildren, Eiger and Laeta, all of Colorado; and his son, Lawrence and wife, Tonya Arneson-Torgersen, and grandchildren, Tresa and Devin Torgersen and Christian Arneson, all of Washington; his brothers, Garth, Noel, Rodney and Dwaine, all of Utah; his sister, LaRee Porter of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members, as well as the friends, neighbors, colleagues and clients he got to know over the several decades he lived and worked in Whitefish.

The family would like to thank emergency responders and the staff of North Valley Hospital for their efforts.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a simple memorial service at 10 a.m. on July 30 at the cemetery in Koosharem.
