Roy R. Desch, 86

  Roy R. Desch, 86, longtime Kalispell resident, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, at North Valley Hospital after a two-month stay at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.

Roy was born Sept. 15, 1924, in Polson, to Fredrick and Marion (Myers) Desch.

Roy attended school at Sunny Slope in Lake County, Westside, Central and Flathead County High School in Kalispell, and Polson High School.

He served in the Army Air Corps during the World War II years.

He worked a lot of construction jobs, including Hungry Horse Dam. For many years he worked electrical construction, the last major job being at Hanford, Wash. He was a member of the IBEW, VFW, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Roy was a friendly guy who made a lot of friends. He always had a joke to tell. He was a regular at Skyes’ restaurant. Music was his greatest love. If he wasn’t watching a movie, he always had music playing.

For many years, Roy made his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Floyd Skogen. During the past months, he received excellent and compassionate care at the Veterans Home.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Marion Myers; his siblings, Virginia Zimmerman, Fred and Jennie Desch, Catherine and Floyd Skogen, Melvin Desch, Marian and Devon “Bud” Johnson; and stepdaughter, Carol.

Roy is survived by sister-in-law, Marge Desch; nieces and nephews, Larry and Ann Johnson, Geraldine and Gary Young, Barbara Cameron of Kalispell, Joyce and Les Potts of Bigfork, Richard and Linda Desch of Wolf Point, John and Barb Desch of Libby, and Robert and Michelle Desch of Spokane; and numerous extended family.

Funeral services for Roy will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel; Interment will follow services at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery, and a reception will be held at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Hall.

The family suggests donations be made to the VFW Post 2252, located at 330 First Ave. W., Kalispell, MT 59901.
