United Way fund effort raises $784,712

| March 9, 2011 2:00 AM

The United Way has concluded its 2010 fundraising campaign, raising a total of $784,712, according to Executive Director Sherry Stevens.

That represents 95 percent of the $825,000 goal.

The 2010 total is 5 percent more than the amount raised the previous year.

“The people of Northwest Montana have dug deep, even in the face of continuing tough economic times, and we are grateful for their generosity and for the hard work of campaign coordinators at the various businesses that support the United Way,” Stevens said.

“Many United Way member agencies are experiencing unprecedented demand for services, and these dollars will go a long way toward helping them meet the needs of Flathead Valley residents.”

Stevens said agencies that provide basic human services are experiencing increases in demand of 35 to 45 percent, and that agencies and volunteers are forming partnerships to stretch dollars and serve more people.

“Listen to Your Heart” was the theme of the 2010 United Way fund drive, which benefits a variety of nonprofit agencies.

Volunteers always are needed, as well. To donate money or learn more about volunteer opportunities, call the United Way Volunteer Center at 752-7266.
