'Grandparent' can't be fooled

The Kalispell Police Department received a report after the so-called “grandparent scam” failed to work on a woman living on Fifth Street West who reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson’s friend and trying to get money.

A woman on Indian Trail Road accused a woman of harassing her by posting inappropriate messages on the Internet.

An employee at a business on Eighth Street East was reportedly bitten by a cat.

Identity theft was alleged by someone on Buffalo Stage Road.

Suspicious activity was investigated on East Montana Street after someone reported that the occupant of a van went into a bank and asked when it closed and how many employees would be working.

On Seventh Avenue West, a man reported that his ex-wife took his cellular phone and would not return it.

A caller on 10th Avenue West reported that his or her neighbors were climbing on a roof.

Three men allegedly left a business on East Idaho Street without paying their bill of $18.75.

An unknown person threw a bottle at a vehicle parked on Fourth Avenue East, shattering a window.

Marijuana was found in the hallway of a bulding on Northwest Lane.

A teenage girl was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Hutton Ranch Road.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a report of reckless driving on North Main Street where a law enforcement officer reported seeing a Volkswagen cross an intersection at a speed of about 80 miles per hour. The officer couldn’t stop the vehicle because he was transporting a prisoner. The vehicle was not found.

A report was filed after an 11-year-old girl calling from the bathroom of a home on North Hilltop Road near Columbia Falls said her father hit her and wouldn’t allow her to go to school. A deputy spoke to the father and the girl was taken to school.

On Shady Lane, someone reported child abuse after seeing a man cursing at his children and hitting one in the head. When contacted, the man said his truck was out of gas and that he was trying to hurry the children on their way to school.

A welfare check was requested for an elderly woman on Woodland Road in Columbia Falls after a landlord couldn’t contact her. The woman was called on her cellular phone and said she was in Arizona enjoying the sunshine.

Two women on Montclair Drive were separated after one allegedly hit the other, causing her lip to bleed.

Animal cruelty was alleged on Zimmerman Road where someone reported that a woman was selling cats that have been exposed to a virus. The caller was counseled.

A vicious cat was reported on Montana 82 near Somers.

Tools, a television and a DVD player were reported stolen from a camper on Columbia Falls Stage Road.

A physical disturbance was reported on Whalebone Court where a woman said her estranged husband threw her out of their house when she came to check on a cat.

Drug use was reported near a home on Montana 35 where a caller said the tenants of a nearby hotel were smoking marijuana and that the smoke was wafting into his windows.

The Montana Highway Patrol, South Kalispell Fire Department and the Somers Volunteer Fire Department stood by along with other emergency responders as Northern Energy Propane personnel conducted maintenance on a propane tank on the 3500 block of U.S. 93 South at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. A company spokesman said there was not a leak and that various agencies were asked to respond as a precaution. Further maintenance is expected to occur today.
