Man charged with vehicular assault

A Flathead County man has been charged with negligent vehicular assault for a March 12 head-on crash that left a woman severely injured.

Daniel Forwoodson registered a blood-alcohol content of .151 — almost double the legal limit — after he allegedly crossed the centerline of Montana 82 and collided head-on with another vehicle.

Two witnesses told a responding Montana Highway Patrol trooper that Forwoodson lost control and collided with the woman’s vehicle at about 8:30 p.m.

It took emergency responders 30 minutes to extract the woman from her vehicle, according to court documents.

She was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center where it was determined that she suffered a broken clavicle, five broken ribs, a pulmonary bruise, a collapsed lung, a concussion and serious injuries to her knees, according to court documents.

In addition to the breath test, Forwoodson allegedly failed several field sobriety tests before being arrested and booked into the Flathead Adult Detention Center.

He since has been released.

A conviction for felony negligent vehicular assault is punishable by up to 10 years in Montana State Prison and a fine of $10,000. Forwoodson could also be required to pay restitution if convicted.
