William A. Jones, 78

William A. Jones of Polson, 78, died early in the morning on March 18, 2011, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.

William was born June 21,1932, in Butte to William C. Jones and Ila Barber Jones. He was the youngest of three siblings, Betty Lou Duffy and John P. Jones. He went through school in Butte and then on to the University of Montana.

At the end of his freshman year William entered the Army. Sgt. Jones served for two years in Korea. At the end of his military service William resumed his education, graduating from the School of Business in 1957.

William married Frances Pound in 1958 in Helena. They moved to Billings, where William worked for Consolidated Freightways in their transportation offices.

In 1962 William enrolled in the College of Advanced Traffic in Chicago. After graduation he continued his transportation career, working for paper companies Boise Cascade, Crown Zellerback and James River.

His love of work found him active into retirement, working for a private audit firm in Portland. He also carried his lifelong love of golf into playing as often as he could.

William is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances, of Polson; his daughter, Ila Tlachac, and Gregg, and two grandchildren, Tori and Zachary Tlachac, all of Sammamish, Wash.; his siblings, Betty Lou Duffy and Fritz of Columbus, Mont., and John P. Jones and Judy of Butte; and many nieces and nephews.
