Transportation planning for the Bad Rock Canyon highway corridor is the topic of a Thursday, May 12, meeting at Columbia Falls City Hall.

Officials with the Montana Department of Transportation are scheduled to give a presentation at 6 p.m., followed by an informal discussion period.

Transportation Department personnel want to hear from people who live in the Canyon area about safety and operational issues as well as “important resources within the natural and human landscape.”

Public comments made at the meeting will help gauge the level of local interest in a corridor planning study.

The meeting focuses on a 2.3-mile stretch of U.S. 2 that starts near Columbia Heights and ends at the intersection with Sixth Street West in Hungry Horse.

People may submit written comments at the May 12 meeting or submit comments by email to snicolai@dowlhkm.com or via the Transportation Department website at www.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/badrock.

Comments should be submitted by May 20.
