Ronan girls eke out tennis win over Whitefish
WHITEFISH - All the pressure was on Ronan's Katelyn Matkovich and she responded.
Matkovich defeated Whitefish's Caroline Carbo 7-6 (7-4), 0-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to give Ronan a 4-3 Northwestern A dual tennis win on Tuesday.
Ronan won 1-2-3 singles and 1 doubles.
"It all came down to the last match of the day - No. 2 singles," Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said.
"It was a real barnburner.
"I was real proud of Caroline," Dryden added.
"She lost a tough tie-breaker, but she battled back."
Dryden said Ryan Chauner and Haley Craven "really picked it up today."
They won at No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-1.

EUREKA - McKinze Schults survived a first-set tiebreaker, then rolled in the second set to lead Bigfork past Eureka in a Western B dual.
Alika Gillard was the lone winner for Eureka, as she rallied to defeat Alanis Stallnecht 2-6, 6-2, (10-6) at No. 3 singles.

WHITEFISH - Victories in all four singles matches along with No. 1 doubles earned Whitefish an easy Northwestern A dual victory.
"All the singles did really well," Whitefish coach Chris Schwaderer said.
"They're young, inexperienced, but they have made some major improvements over the season."

BIGFORK - Singles ruled the day on Monday as the Bigfork Vikings won all four matches en route to a nonconference victory over Columbia Falls.
Columbia Falls, however, won all three doubles matches.
Match of the day was at No. 1 doubles - Wildcats Vadim and Miroslav Zvygelskiy downed Ryan Gembala and Evan Jordt in a thrilling 3-setter. Scores were 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.
Columbia Falls hosts Libby in dual action on Friday while Bigfork starts Western B divisional play the same day in St. Ignatius.
