A lot on the line for softball
TODAY: Doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
WHERE: Conrad Complex.
SERIES: Glacier has won every meeting but one - Flathead's last win was April 18, 2008 when the Bravettes won 5-4 in the opening game of the twinbill. The Wolfpack leads the series now 12-1.
LAST MEETING: Glacier won both games at Kidsport Complex, 14-4 in the conference game and 20-2 in the nightcap. Glacier scored four runs in the first inning of the conference game and never looked back. Sophomore Jena Willis and senior Baylee Quay both had home runs and both batted in four runs.
Glacier's Jessie Compton got the win in the first game while Willis threw a two-hitter in the second game.
COACH'S THOUGHTS: "It's pretty critical for us," said Glacier coach Joel Bemis.
The one bit of good news is that it appears Flathead and Glacier will not be going against one other in a playoff game.
But ... they are tied for third and fourth in Western AA right now, Bemis said.
Both are 5-6 in Western AA play.
If the Wolfpack wins today's conference game, it could end up third and host Hellgate. If it loses, it could finish fifth and travel to Missoula to play Big Sky.
"We've got to win that conference game," Bemis said.
Healthwise, things are looking good for the Wolfpack.
"We're doing well. Everybody has had a couple good practices and the girls are feeling pretty good. We've tuned some things up defensively," he said.
"Our girls are really excited about (the crosstown). It's a good atmosphere and a lot of people," he said.
Bemis looks for huge contributions from all the Glacier seniors - Baylee Quay, Erin Fitzsimmons, Paige Latimer, Jessie Compton, Brittany Franklin, Sabrina Kenfield, Kendra Bouley and Megan Connelly.
"They understand what it's about. All those seniors will be important to the game," Bemis said.
Flathead coach Tim Severson did not return the Inter Lake's telephone call.
