Wilson hired as Flathead athletic director
Flathead High School Principal Peter Fusaro has announced that Bryce Wilson will replace Frank Jobe as the school's activities director.
Jobe, who resigned earlier this month, has been the FHS assistant principal with activities director duties the past four years. The board of trustees approved Jobe's resignation at its May 10 meeting.
Jobe was named the Class AA Montana Activities Director of the Year two years ago.
"Frank did a great job," Fusaro said.
"He came in during a tough time. He worked through the transition from one school to two, and that was no easy task. He helped guide us through the progress. We wish him the best of luck as he heads down to the Salt Lake City area to be with his family."
Wilson has been an assistant principal at Flathead for four years. Wilson will keep those duties.
"We have a procedure that any time a position opens up, we advertise in-house for a week," Fusaro said.
"When it's internal, we don't put together a committee.
"[Wilson has] done an outstanding job; he has a wealth of experience teaching and in administration," Fusaro added.
"He has built a good rapport with kids, staff and the community. He's well respected, very well organized."
Wilson will officially take over the activities director duties on July 1.
"He will coordinate with Frank to make sure there is a smooth transition," Fusaro said.
Jobe moved to Kalispell from Missoula. He taught math at Sentinel High School for six years, and prior to that, taught math and coached basketball and boys soccer at Big Sky.
Jobe had 22 years of teaching experience before moving to Kalispell. He has been an assistant principal for five years at FHS.
"It was an interesting time," Jobe said.
"I think it was much different, more different than we even realized [breaking into two schools]. Flathead had to find its new identity as well. We were a new school in many respects."
"I loved it," Jobe said of his time at FHS.
"I think Flathead was and is a great place to be. I used to say I had the best job at Flathead High, and I believe that. It was a cool place. I love the kids, teachers and coaches, everyone I worked with. I had a great time.
"For me I didn't go to work, I went to school. That's how I looked at it. I loved school."
Wilson, a 1986 Flathead graduate, returned the Flathead Valley after spending 14 years in Reardan, Wash. He started out teaching math and also coached varsity girls basketball for that school system. When he left, he was the junior high school principal and district athletic director.
"It's been a great four years since I've been back," Wilson said.
"Very enjoyable.
"It's a great place to work," he said.
"I'm happy to be serving the community I grew up in. I want to continue to build on the tradition that we have here."
