Libby's Winslow throws perfect game
LIBBY - Fourteen-year-old Jared Winslow, in only his second career legion baseball start, threw a perfect game through five innings to give the Libby Loggers a victory and the title at the third annual Wood Bat Tournament on Sunday.
Winslow struck out nine, including the final three batters, and committed no walks in only 49 pitches against the rival Kootenai Valley Rangers. The Loggers won 14-0, winning their host tournament for the second year in a row.
"It was exciting. Jared is a promising young ball player, hopefully it's a sign of good things to come for him," fifth-year Libby skipper Kelly Morford said.
Alex Cislo had three RBI, Andrew Haggerty and Will Reichel each had two and Libby ended tournament action at 3-1.
"I was glad that the kids were able to enjoy it. It was fun for everybody," Morford said. "Win the tournament on a perfect game, that's a pretty good way to end the weekend."
The Loggers head to Whitefish on Tuesday for the Class A conference opener against the Glacier Twins at 6 p.m.
