Glacier AA Twins edge Trail; fall to Sherwood Park

Cody Elek drove in five runs with a bases clearing triple in the fourth inning and a two-run home run in the sixth inning to power the Glacier Twins to an 11-9 victory over Trail, British Columbia, on Saturday at the Canadian Days American Legion baseball tournament at Griffin Field.

Devyn Rocker saved the victory, pitching to two batters in the seventh inning. He walked the first, but struck out the next one to end it with Trail runners on second and third.

Elek's homer was his fourth of the season. His two extra-base hits were both to right field.

He was 2-for-3 in the game.

Chris King and Rocker both went 2-for-4 for the Twins and clubbed doubles.

Cody Hill also doubled for the victors.

Glacier then finished the day, dropping an 11-10 contest to Sherwood Park.

Sherwood Park jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first inning, but rallied back to tie it up at 10-10 in the fifth inning when a catcher's interference call loaded the bases. Sherwood Park's next batter doubled to clear the bases.

Sherwood Park added a run in the top of the sixth to win it.

Glacier stranded runners at second and third in the bottom half of the sixth when the game was called on the tournament time-limit rule.

Rocker, 3-for-3 doubled in that contest and finished with three RBI for the Twins, who had 11 hits.

Jeremy Nielson and Kyler Blades both tripled for Glacier.

Elek and Hill both went 2-for-4.

Glacier (9-7 overall) plays Edmonton today at 10 a.m. as the tournament ends its three-day run.

Glacier on its Friday tournament contest, beating the Calgary Redbirds 12-2.
