BILLINGS - Helena Capital scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as it defeated the Glacier Wolfpack 6-1 in loser out play of the Class AA state softball tournament on Friday.

The Wolfpack had six hits on the day. It was led at the plate by Shayna Atlee, who was 2-for-4. Senior catcher Brittany Franklin hit a sixth inning solo home run. Baylee Quay was 1-for-2, Megan Connolly was 1-for-3 and Anna Costa was 1-for-3.

Defensively, the Wolfpack was sound - only one error while Capital committed four.

Glacier finished its season at 12-11. The Wolfpack graduates nine seniors - Quay, Erin Fitzsimmons, Costa, Paige Latimer, Jessie Compton, Franklin, Sabrina Kenfield, Kendra Bouley and Connolly.

"It's tough," Glacier coach Joel Bemis said.

"Those seniors wanted to win some games at state, but they had a pretty good year."
