A 57-year-old Kalispell man is dead following a head-on collision of two pickup trucks on U.S. 2 north of Evergreen Friday afternoon.

The collision followed a medical call for the man while he was farther up the road, when he was believed to have been stopped on the southbound side of the highway, according to the Montana Highway Patrol. When emergency responders from Evergreen arrived in the area, they came across the crash. The man had apparently gotten back on the road, crossing into the northbound lanes and colliding head-on with another pickup truck.

The force of the collision effectively fused the front ends of the two trucks.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Flathead County Undersheriff Jordan White.

His name is being withheld pending notification of the family. Officials expect to release his name early next week.

Two people in the northbound truck were transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

In addition to the people injured, there were two dogs in the man’s truck, one of which died while the other was taken to a veterinarian. A dog in the northbound truck was uninjured, White said.
