Kalispell charges impact fees for new construction, expansions and additions that add demand for city services.

Those fees — charged for water, sewer, stormwater, police, fire and transportation — total $6,709 for a new single-family residence.

Here’s a breakdown of Kalispell’s impact fees:

Water impact fees are $2,213 for a new residence with a 3/4-inch line; $5,533 for a 1-inch line; $11,066 for a 1.5-inch line; $17,705 for a 2-inch line; and $35,411 for a 3-inch water line. Larger lines are calculated on an individual basis.

Sewer impact fees are $2,499 for a residence and per “equivalent residential unit” as calculated for larger projects. That includes $1,435 for sewer treatment and $1,064 for collection, split into two separate city funds.

Stormwater impact fees are $1,121 for a residence, which is defined as 2,400 square feet of impervious area, and per equivalent residential unit as calculated for larger projects.

Police impact fees are $41 per residence; $31 per apartment unit; and $16 per 1,000 square feet of commercial space.

Fire impact fees are $483 per residence, $367 per apartment unit or duplex; and $350 per 1,000 square feet of commercial build space.

Transportation impact fees are $352 per residence; $246 per apartment unit; and $215 per condominium or townhouse. Fees for commercial projects are calculated based on square footage and traffic generation estimates updated each year by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
