A Thursday morning fire badly damaged a home on Dogwood Lane in Evergreen, but it wasn’t a total loss and no one was hurt.

Evergreen Fire Chief Craig Williams said his department was dispatched at 7:47 a.m. to an initial report of flames and smoke rising from the single-wide mobile home with a large addition at 124 Dogwood Lane.

“There was heavy smoke and fire coming from the mobile home,” Williams said. “Both of the occupants were out on my arrival.”

The fire was mostly limited to the ceiling area of the trailer, but it did drop down to a bathroom and two bedrooms, causing damage before firefighters contained it at around 8:20 a.m.

“The trailer sustained pretty heavy smoke damage throughout,” Williams said. “The trailer will be a total loss, but they were able to save quite a few contents, even in the bedrooms. There wasn’t a lot of extensive burn damage in there.”

The homeowners, identified at Richard and Rose Brester, are staying with family members and Red Cross housing wasn’t needed, Williams said.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 11:20 a.m. and an investigation as to the fire’s cause is under way.

“From our initial investigation, we believe it was probably electrical in nature near the bathroom ceiling,” Williams said. “There’s some wiring in there that we are taking a look at.”

Kalispell Fire Department assisted in the response.
