Moose struck, killed near Olney

A moose was killed after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 93 in the Olney area Friday morning.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Warden Chris Crane said the driver of the small passenger vehicle was not injured, but the moose died.

“I called the North Valley Food Bank, and they were mobilizing to go up there and get it,” Crane said. “Hopefully they’ll get it in time.”


The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a man on Mountain Avenue near Columbia Falls who said someone was pounding on the windows of his home and trying to get inside at 10:13 p.m. Thursday. He said similar incidents have occurred several nights in a row and that he would use his gun if the person got inside.

A woman on Coyote Meadow Trail asked for a welfare check for her father after he failed to respond to her telephone calls. She said she suspected he had been kidnapped by Russian Communists.

A man on Mennonite Church Road reported that he found property stolen by his stepdaughter at a business on East Idaho Street in Kalispell.

Two dogs were accused of chasing a young girl at a home on U.S. 2 West.

Burglary was reported at a home on Bachelor Grade after the owner discovered a broken window and several missing items at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

Two men attempted to sell someone marijuana and pills in the parking lot of a business on Montana 35 Thursday at about 8:30 p.m., according to a caller.

A cat was shot with a pellet gun by an unknown person Thursday on Mission Trail Way.


The Kalispell Police Department received a report from a woman on Second Avenue East who said that her 14-year-old son pushed her down a stairway at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The boy was later found, arrested and placed in juvenile detention.

Someone stole keys from a motorcycle parked at a business on Hutton Ranch Road at about 5:20 p.m. Surveillance footage showed an unknown suspect taking the keys.

Criminal mischief was reported on Wolfpack Way after someone keyed a vehicle.

A woman was temporarily trapped inside a vehicle at the intersection of Second Street East and Fourth Street East after a suburban collided with the vehicle, forcing it to collide with a telephone pole. The crash occurred at about 7:40 p.m.

A pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for an evaluation after the vehicle she was in rolled near the intersection of 13th Street East and Sixth Avenue East at 7:42 p.m.

Someone stole a backpack from a locker in a building on First Avenue West.

An officer gave a ride to a man found intoxicated and passed out near the doors of a business on North Main Street at about 8:45 p.m.

Officers responded to a home on Second Avenue West after neighbors reported hearing what sounded like a young girl screaming at about 11:30 p.m.  A boy was screaming because his baby sitter wouldn’t take him to a store.

A man stole a television from a business on Hutton Ranch Road at about 2:15 a.m. Friday.
