Whitefish boys top Laurel in soccer

LAUREL - Sam Donaldson scored twice in the first half and Nathan Boone added a second-half goal as Whitefish topped Laurel 3-1 in Class A boys nonconference soccer action on Saturday.

Whitefish (2-2) had 15 shots on goal to one for Laurel. Whitefish led in corner kicks 5-2.

"We're improving everywhere across the board," Whitefish coach O'Brien Byrd said.

"From the back to the offense to the defense, we're improving. We haven't taken any steps backwards from Sandpoint (a 5-0 loss on Aug. 27)."

Anthony Correa had nine goalie saves for the Wildcats (1-3) in the Class A nonconference match.

COLUMBIA FALLS - McKenzie Kiser scored a goal and Kira Kamrud had six saves, but it wasn't quite enough as the Columbia Falls Wildkats (3-1) fell to Belgrade in Class A nonconference play.

"I think that we played hard, a good hard game. We made a couple of mistakes in the back and it cost us," said Columbia Falls coach Greg Trenerry.

"They are a good, strong team," he added.

"We won the second half, but we didn't score, so we need to finish a little better," he said.

The coach complimented the efforts of McKenzie Kiser up front, Cedar Jordt at center mid and Katy Darling in the back.

LAUREL - Megan Danczyk scored two goals in the late going, but time ran out on Whitefish (1-2).

Danczyk's goals were at 65 and 72 minutes. She now has seven goals this season.

Haylee Gallegos scored the game-winning goal for Laurel at 77 minutes.

Three different players scored for Laurel (4-0) in the Class A nonconference matchup.

"It was a great team effort," Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said.

"We were down 2-0, tied it up, but gave one up at the very end."
