Bulldogs battle back, blast Browning

WHITEFISH - The Bulldogs exploded offensively for a total of 628 yards and handily defeated the Browning Indians 53-26 in Class A football action Saturday.

Whitefish (2-1) found itself trailing 20-12 in the second quarter after Browning star Charles Old Chief scored his third touchdown on a six-yard run.

"They had some momentum and we kind of just let them hang around," said Whitefish's offensive coordinator Eric May.

The Bulldogs wouldn't trail for long.

Whitefish rallied and scored 20 points to take a 32-20 halftime lead.

The lead only expanded from there as the Bulldogs' defense held the Indians to just six points in the second half while the offense produced three more touchdowns.

"It was a great win for the team and the program," May said. "We fought them off and executed offensively, and defensively we had the big stops when we needed them."

Senior Christopher Forrest, one of two quarterbacks for Whitefish, completed 14 of 18 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow senior quarterback Connor Donahue finished 10 of 18 for 161 yards and a touchdown.

Forrest also rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns and caught three passes for another 55 yards.

"He's just sort of our jack of all trades," May said of Forrest. "He can do it all."

Meanwhile, 6-foot-5 senior Gage Vasquez hauled in seven passes for 168 yards and Connor Ellis caught six passes for 92 yards.

"They really caught the ball well," May said. "I think everything we threw to those two guys, they pulled it in."

Junior Logan Harwood also played well at the receiver position, amassing two touchdowns and 38 yards on three receptions.

Whitefish running backs Robby Neff and Shane Marcial each had just over 50 yards rushing and a touchdown each.

Whitefish has a bye this week and then plays at Libby Sept. 23.
