A first-hand look at justice
The Montana Supreme Court meets in Kalispell today for oral arguments in two cases, and its a rare opportunity for local citizens to get an up-close view of one of the most important institutions in our state government.
Proceedings begin at 10 a.m. at the Red Lion, but it is recommended that you get there early if you want to ensure a seat.
One of the cases involves the court’s interpretation of the Model Business Corporations Act as it relates to “conflicts of interest” and the “business judgment rule.”
The other case involves a group of plaintiffs who feel they were defrauded when they purchased securities and are asking the court to rule that the agreement they signed with the broker was invalid because it caused them to unknowingly waive their constitutional right to a jury trial.
The second case includes Rick Hill as one of the plaintiffs. Hill is currently seeking the Republican nomination to run for governor of the state of Montana.
One dedicated high school student is going to get a heck of a reward at the end of this school year.
Green Nissan is giving away a brand new 2012 Nissan. Students who have perfect attendance during the current school year from Flathead, Glacier, Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish high schools are eligible to be entered in the drawing.
We commend the dealership for thinking outside the box, and using its gift to help encourage students to do better in school, and learn skills that will last a lifetime.
Reader alert! This weekend presents the last opportunity for Glacier National Park visitors to find their way to Logan Pass from the west on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 19, the section of road between Avalanche and Logan Pass will be closed to accommodate accelerate road rehabilitation work that can require two-lane closures in work areas.
But for those who are determined to reach the pass, there is still a way — it will be accessible from the east side at the St. Mary entrance until Oct. 18, if weather conditions permit.
Park officials have long emphasized that lower sections of the road are open all year, but for those who haven’t reached the pass from West Glacier this year, this weekend is your last chance!
