Tough day for Glacier, Flathead golfers
For the first time this fall, Glacier's golf teams struggled.
The Glacier girls are holding down third place, 21 shots behind first-place Bozeman, after first-round action Thursday at the Butte/Anaconda Invitational.
The Glacier boys are sitting in fourth place, 24 shots behind first-place Billings West.
West, led by Brandon McIver's course record 64, shot a sizzling team total of 288 at Fairmont Golf Course in Gregson. The previous record was a 65 set by Greg VanNatta in 1995.
The best individual effort for Glacier was turned in by Logan Iverson and Ryan Porch. Both shot 77 for a seven-way tie for seventh place, along with Falthead's Michael Lavin.
Flathead's boys are eighth in the teams standings with a 329 total.
Charlee Remitz of Bozeman shot an 82 for a two-shot lead in the medalist chase for girls.
Glacier's Shelby Ballard opened with an 89, which was good for a share of sixth place.
Glacier's Kaydee Aurich, 92, is tied for 10th.
Morgan Knutson, 109, had the best round for the Flathead girls, who are seventh in the team standings, 422.
