WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Bulldogs withstood a

comeback attempt by Polson after taking a six goal lead and came

away with a 6-3 win in a Northern A play Tuesday.

Riley Lemm paced the Pirates with three unassisted

scores in the second half but Polson couldn’t overcome Whitefish’s

fast start.

Elior Rossi got the Bulldogs started with a goal in

the 10th minute. Mark Stormes, Casey Beiser and Sam Donaldson

netted goals before Rossie scored his second in the 30th minute to

put Whitefish ahead 5-0.

Beiser tacked on another goal to make it 6-0 in the

58th minute. It was the last score for the Bulldogs.

“It was your classic ‘let your guard down, take your

foot off the gas pedal (game),’” Whitefish coach O’Brien Byrd

said.

Lemm scored in the 63rd, the 71st and the 80th

minutes to give the game its final score.

Byrd said each of Lemm's goals were from 30-yards or

so away from the net and that he was largely unchallenged by

Whitefish players.

“I was disappointed to see the lack of focus in that

situation,” Byrd said. “We just weren’t stepping to the ball.”

The Bulldogs did do a better job of taking advantage

of scoring opportunities, netting goals on six of 11 attempts.

“I was definitely happy with that,” Byrd said. “We’ve

been struggling at putting the ball in the back of the net. We

finished on about half our chances (against Polson).”

nonconference match.

The 1-0 score stood until the 72nd minute when

McKenzie Hemp found the back of the net to tie the match.

Five minute later, Ashley Hauss scored and gave the

Cougars the lead after a pass from Karley Conrad.

“Anytime we can get a win it’s great, but the girls

actually had a great week of practice, came out and worked really

hard today,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said. “All the work on

fitness this season showed up in this game.”

Stillwater goalkeeper Janelle Falk had seven saves.

Bigfork outshot Stillwater Christian 12-10.

“Jessica Koch also played really solid in the middle

for us,” Hemp said. “All of our defenders stepped up again.”
