Andrew David Guy, 76

| September 29, 2011 8:00 PM

Andrew David Guy of Somers heard the words, “‘Well done, good and faithful servant,’ and was welcomed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ” on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011.

Andy was born to U.S. Army Capt. Alfred E. Guy of Helena and Marguerite Casey Guy on March 27, 1935, in Hollywood, Calif. His family, which included older brother Alfred Eugene "Gene" Guy Jr., later moved to Eagle Rock, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles.

Andy graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1953. He often joked that he was kicked out of some of the best colleges on the West Coast before receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Los Angeles State College and Master of Science degree in public health from UCLA.

Andy met Janet Kyle in Glendale, Calif., outside their neighboring apartments where they often visited in the fresh air while escaping their roommates’ cigarette smoke. These visits resulted in Andy falling in love with Janet 51 years ago. They married in Bel Air, Calif.

God blessed them with four children, Laura Anne Jones, David Andrew Guy, Steven Kyle Guy and Deanna Catherine Madsen.

During the late ’60s, Andy was the assistant administrator for the Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, Calif., and associate administrator/CFO for the University of Arizona Medical Center in the early ’70s.

Andy played a key role in the development of several Tucson health care organizations. He was a founder of the Dialysis Foundation of Southern Arizona and Southwest Kidney Institute, where he also served as CEO for several years, and was the first non-physician president of the End Stage Renal Disease network in the Western states.

In 1992, Andy retired back to the Montana of his youth. Andy's father had grown up on a ranch in the Helena area, and the family had spent much of his childhood summers on the shores of Flathead Lake. He and Janet have enjoyed the amazing view of his favorite lake from their home in Somers for the past 16 years. They never regretted for one minute leaving the hot desert behind.

Not being a hobby kind of guy, Andy spent his time studying history, politics, theology and economics. He was known to be extremely generous and openly shared his blessings with others even after his diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease in 2010.

Andy was the best of men. He was a godly man, husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of Somers; daughter, Laura Guy Jones, and Brian, and children, Delaina and Jacob, of Tucson, Ariz.; son, David, and wife, Laura Guy, and children, Andrew and Elizabeth, of Tucson; son, Steven, and wife, Mona Guy, and children, Ruby and twins, Eugene Christopher and Violet, of Kalispell; and daughter, Deanna, and husband, Peter Madsen, and children, Mathea and twins, Sarah and Helena, of Holbaek, Denmark; sister-in-law, Mary Guy; and Victoria and husband David Wojciechowski, and son, Alex, of Kalispell.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and his beloved brother, Col. Alfred E Guy Jr.

His memory will be greatly cherished by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Glacier Camp on Flathead Lake, with a reception, dinner and good memories to celebrate his life at the same location. Please RSVP to 257-4759 or sguy@centurytel.net by Oct. 11.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald Reagan for President Again Fund.

“Amen!”
