Tough go for Glacier, Flathead golfers at state
BUTTE — It wasn’t the best start for Glacier’s golf teams, but it was nothing to panic about either.
There are still 18 more holes to be played today at the Butte Country Club.
The Wolfpack boys, led by Ryan Porch’s 73, are sitting third after first-day action on Thursday with a 300 team total. Billings Senior and Billings West both had 294 to share first.
Glacier’s other top scorer was Andy Boyer, who shot 75.
Porch is tied for fourth place and Boyer is tied for 10th.
“We’re only six (shots) out of first, we’re still in the game,” Glacier coach Rob Logsdon said on the team side.
“We’ll see what we can do (today).”
Flathead is 13th with a 336 mark. Max Applegate shot 79 to lead the Braves while teammate Michael Lavin, who has been a consistent top 10 finisher, struggled with an 85.
In girls action, Glacier holds down the fifth position with a 363 total. Bozeman had the best team score, 332, followed by Butte, 334.
Mallory Skinn shot 88 to pace the Wolfpack. That left her six shots away from cracking into the top 10. Shelby Ballard, the team’s top scorer all season, shot 90.
“The girls are still positive,” Logsdon said.
Logsdon said Skinn “played super, super well.
“The girls had a little bit of a rough time,” he added.
“They didn’t play badly. Butte and Helena High had great days. We’re hoping we can have our great day (today).”
Flathead and Missoula Big Sky are tied for 13th place with 413 totals.
The Bravettes were led by Jourdan McFarland and Geneva Zoltek. Both shot 101.
