Weisert, Brown in the hunt at State Seniors golf tournament
BILLINGS — Bigfork’s John Weisert and Tom Brown shot a 78 and 79, respectively, and Polson’s Johnny Ashcraft shot an 80 to lead the local contingent at the Montana State Senior Golf Association tournament.
Billings’ Jeff Allen leads after shooting a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday. Gary Thompson of Deer Lodge sits in second with a 72 and Bozeman’s Kelley Gaskill and Lee Levine are tied for third with opening rounds of 74.
The 54-hole State Seniors is for golfers age 55-and-over. It is being played at Lake Hills, Yellowstone Country Club and Laurel Golf Club. Over 330 golfers are competing, making it the largest amateur tournament in the state.
