Mission Valley wins in extras

BURLEY, Idaho — The Mission Valley Mariners fought back after a late collapse to beat North Medford, Ore., in extra innings in their first round game at the Class A Northwest Regional American Legion baseball tournament on Friday.

North Medford scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the score at 8-8 and send the game into extras.

But, the Mariners regrouped quickly in the 10th as Chris Clary hit a two-out double off the wall in left-center field to score Robbie Gauthier and walk off with the 9-8 victory. 

Clary finished 3 for 5 with a triple, a double and three RBIs to lead Mission Valley, which finished with 15 hits as a team. Justin Evertz picked up the win on the mound.

The Mariners will play Rocky Mountain at 4:30 p.m. today in the second round. Based in Boise, the Avalanche beat Glasgow 9-6 to advance.
