Glacier boys in 1st, girls 2nd at first golf meet

GREAT FALLS — Glacier’s golf squads are off to a super start for the 2012 Class AA high school season.

The Wolfpack hold down first place in the boys field after 18 holes on Monday at the Great Falls Invitational at Meadow Lark Country Club.

The Glacier girls are second to Billing West.

Ryan Porch shot a 2-under 70 to hold down the top spot on the leader board.

Teammate Logan Iverson and Whitefish’s Arthur Doorn share second with 72s.

The Glacier boys turned in a 297 team total, which is four-shots ahead of Billings Skyview.

Cody Sherrill of Glacier, Ryan Keenan of Flathead and Sean Benson of Missoula Sentinel are tied for 12th with 76s.

Teigan Avery leads the Glacier girls with her 7-over 79. That is good for third place, one shot behind co-leaders Kortney McNeil of Sentinel and Coral Schultz of Helena Capital.

Glacier’s Shea Stevens is two shots out of the top 10 with her 88.

Six girls shot 88, along with Katie Fyall of Whitefish.

West (337) leads Glacier’s girls by 10 shots heading into today’s final round at Eagle Falls Golf Course. Play starts at 8:30 a.m.

The Flathead boys (329) are in 10th place after first-day action, while Whitefish is 12th (339).

The Flathead girls (418) are also 10th. Whitefish (425) is 11th.

Morgan Knutson shot 97 to lead the Bravettes.
