Class A football: Polson lands 6 players on all-state team

Northwestern A regular season champion Polson had six players named to the Class A All-State football team in balloting done by state coaches.

Columbia Falls, Libby and Whitefish all had two selections each.

Honored from Polson were: offensive guard Riley Sampson (6-3, 255, sr.), offensive tackle Dan LaFranier (6-4, 235, sr.), fullback Colton Lenz (5-10, 170, sr.), defensive end Eric Williamson (6-3, 205, sr.), inside linebacker Beau Mills (5-10, 185, sr.) and safety Will Davey (6-0, 180, sr.).

Named from Columbia Falls were fullback Zach Darling (5-10, 150, sr.) and offensive guard TJ Volkman (6-0, 250, sr.).

Libby’s selections were tight end Kraig Nelson (6-1, 200, sr.) and quarterback Jared Winslow (6-0, 190, jr.).

Whitefish’s all-state picks were wide receiver Logan Harwood (6-0, 155, sr.) and running back Shane Marcial (5-9, 150, sr.).

Polson, ranked No. 3 in the final poll, was undefeated during the regular season — 8-0 overall and 5-0 in league play.

The Pirates (9-1) fell to Dillon in the semifinal round of the Class A playoffs, 28-7.

Columbia Falls finished third in Northwestern A play with a 2-2 mark. The Wildcats were 4-5 overall. Columbia Falls lost to Anaconda 32-14 in the first round of the playoffs.

Whitefish was 1-3 in league action and 3-6 overall. Libby finished 0-4 and 3-6.

The all-state players were also named to the all-conference team.
