Conrad Mansion plans holiday events

| December 5, 2012 5:00 PM

The Conrad Mansion Museum has many opportunities this month to catch the spirit of the holiday season.

The mansion is fully decorated for Christmas, complete with a beautiful Christmas tree in the grand hall. During a visit during this time, visitors will learn about the Conrad’s Christmas traditions, including its beloved Christmas pudding. Hundred-year-old quilts, as well as a new historic clothing exhibit, “Dressing Up for New Year’s Eve,” are also on display.

The clothing exhibit was created by Teresa Knutson and includes historical pieces that were worn throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s for special celebrations, including New Year’s Eve. The display includes tuxedos and gowns complete with tiaras.

Christmas tours run through Dec. 22. The tours are held every Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and reservations are suggested to ensure space availability.

If Friday and Saturday tours sell out, special tours are also available Sundays at 2 p.m. by reservation only.

Prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for students and $4 for children.

Another holiday tradition at the Conrad Mansion is the Holiday Tea and Tour. On Dec. 8 and 15, visitors may enjoy a Christmas tour followed by a traditional tea in the dining room.

Cost is $25 per person, and reservations are required. Private traditional teas can also be arranged; call the mansion for details.

Children’s Christmas takes place Dec. 13 at the mansion. Children meet Santa in the great hall and have the chance to share their wish list while having a professional photo taken by Karen Weyer Photography. They also receive a small gift and are able to tour the mansion with their family.

Time slots are available between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and reservations are required. Prices are $10 for children and $3 for adults.

The Conrad Mansion is located on Woodland Avenue between Third and Fourth streets east. Call 755-2166 or visit www.conradmansion.com for more information.
