A 62-year-old Whitefish man is dead after falling out of a second-story window at his Rest Haven Drive home on Nov. 29.

According to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, Stuart Milter was found on the ground outside his home dressed in underwear, a T-shirt and socks by a coworker after Milter did not show up for work.

A second-story window above Milter’s body was open and the screen was off.

Preliminary autopsy results were inconclusive and Curry is awaiting the results of a toxicology report from the Montana State Crime Lab.

“Why he came out of that window is a really good question,” Curry said. “There certainly are no signs of foul play or anything to indicate it wasn’t either accidental or some intentional climb out the window. It’s still under investigations and still pending final autopsy results.”

Curry said there was also some indication that Milter may have crawled around on the ground before he died. The exact cause of death is still pending.

A memorial service for Milter is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Whitefish.
