Mining City Duals: Flathead grapplers in championship round
BUTTE — Flathead emerged from pool play of the Mining City wrestling duals with a 2-1 record and a spot in today’s championship round after beating Conrad 72-18 and Ronan 54-31.
Glacier, Columbia Falls and Polson all failed to qualify for the championship round.
Flathead’s only loss was a 71-11 defeat against Great Falls High, last year’s runner-up at the Class AA state tournament.
Glacier defeated Belgrade 47-30 and tied Billings West 39-39, but a 51-26 loss to Missoula Sentinel cost the Wolfpack a chance at the tournament title.
Columbia Falls and Polson each went 0-3. Columbia Falls lost 69-13 to Havre, 66-18 to Bozeman and 51-30 to Great Falls C.M. Russell.
Polson lost 68-18 to Helena High and 54-27 to Billings Skyview before suffering a narrow 46-39 loss to Dillon.
Flathead opens today’s championship round with duals against Butte and Havre.
Glacier and Polson will compete in a consolation pool with Helena Capital.
Columbia Falls’ consolation pool includes Ronan and Huntley Project.
