Swimmers post personal bests
BUTTE — The Glacier and Flathead swim teams each posted a handful of personal bests at the Butte High swim meet on Saturday.
The Glacier boys had a big day in the freestyle events, with Joshua and Jordan Loyda putting up big points for the Wolfpack. Joshua won the 200 free and placed third in the 100 free while Jordan posted second place finishes in each the 100 and 200. Teammate Logan Striet finished second in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 free.
The trio teamed up with Alex Augusta to lead the Wolfpack relay team to wins in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle.
Augusta swam a personal best in the 50 freestyle, finishing ninth, leading four other Pack swimmers to make improvements in the pool. Tommy Briner finished ninth in the 100 breast stroke and John Putnam (50 free, 100 free), Jenna Kintzler (100 free) and Maddie Walters (200 medley) also set new bests.
Flathead had a pair of top finishes, with senior Cassie Krueger finishing second in the 50 free and touching the wall third in the 100 breaststroke.
Hailie Maas finished ninth in the 100 free to set a personal best. Madison Lovett (50 free, 100 free), Jaycee Rocha (50 free), Lauren Deffern (50 free), Jenna Wilke (50 free) and Ethan Timm (100 free) also set personal bests at the meet.
“Its exciting, most of the personal bests are from newer swimmers,” Flathead/Glacier swim coach Dave Lillard said. “It shows they’re working hard in practice and taking our advice to heart.”
He said a lot of the kids were tired from a tough week of practices, but was glad to see time drops.
“It’s great to see success at the second swim meet of the season,” Lillard said. “It shows a lot of guts that they gave their best and swam fast. It hints at lot of success for the future.”
The swim teams head to the Great Falls Invite next weekend.
