Girls basketball: Glacier blows out Whitefish, 59-14

The Glacier girls didn’t take long to take control of their game against Whitefish Tuesday night, scoring the first 14 points against the Bulldogs on the way to a 59-14 nonconference blowout.
The Wolfpack (2-0) got out on the fast break early, scoring on its first seven possessions to open the lead, and outscoring the Bulldogs 20-5 in the first quarter. Senior shooting guard Kailea Vaudt, who had a slow start to the season opener against Great Falls C.M. Russell, had no trouble finding the bottom of the net in the first half, scoring 14 of her game-high 16 points in the first two quarters.
“She did a great job,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said. “Kailea Vaudt ran the floor so well tonight. She got into rhythm, got into her second game and just shot the ball better.”
Whitefish (0-3) had trouble scoring, struggling with the height of the Wolfpack, hitting just 15 percent of its shots in the game and getting out rebounded 47-24. The Bulldogs also had 23 turnovers against the tough Glacier defense.
“We knew we weren’t gonna press, we were just going to play some good half court D,” Salonen said. “There’s some things we were going to work on that we didn’t do so well against CMR.”
Three Glacier players scored in double figures, with Cassi Hashley adding 14 and Katie Wiley 12 to Vaudt’s total. Hashley and Rachel Chery each had eight rebounds. At least 10 players scored for the Wolfpack, with nearly the whole team seeing the floor for at least 10 minutes.
Maura Kalbfleisch led Whitefish with five points, including the only 3-pointer in the game. Simone Craft had a team-high four rebounds.
Glacier hits the road for its next game, playing Great Falls High on Saturday. Whitefish plays at Bigfork on Dec. 21.
