GREAT FALLS — Flathead’s Jake Egley pinned Glacier’s Jackson Barber in the third period of the 160-pound championship bout at the 35th annual Holiday Wrestling Classic in Great Falls Saturday.

Egley and Barber were the only finalists for the Glacier and Flathead wrestling teams, which placed sixth and 12th, respectively, at the two-day, 39-team tournament.

Great Falls High took the team title with 243 points. Havre was second with 205.5 points and Bozeman was third with 196 points.

Glacier finished with 152.5 points while Flathead scored 89.

“It was interesting having an all-Kalispell final at 160,” Flathead coach Scot Davis said.

“Jake looked exceptional the whole tournament. He’s just such a mover. If you’re going to wrestle with him, you need to be ready to go for six minutes.”

Egley led Barber 8-2 before securing the pin with 20 seconds remaining in the bout.

Suny Cheff was Flathead’s only other top-six placer at the tournament, settling for sixth place at 145 pounds after being pinned by Great Falls’ Gage Bentley in the third period of their fifth-place bout.

“We saw some progress,” Davis said.

“We’re kind of taking baby steps here. I was hoping to get a few more place-winners, but we were really close, so that’s a good thing.”

Glacier’s Alek Mitchell and Dawson Day placed third at 145 and 171 pounds, respectively.

Mitchell won a 3-1 decision against Bozeman’s Ty Johnston and Day won an 11-2 decision over Belgrade’s Bryce Akers in their respective third-place bouts.

Placing fourth for Glacier were 119-pounder Cody Decker and 152-pounder Grant Tafoya.
