A Scottsdale, Ariz., man died Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 93 in Whitefish.

Authorities identified the man as Bryan Melling, 27, and said he had been living in the Whitefish area.

Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Leib said Melling was northbound on U.S. 93 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a signal light pole at the northeast corner of the entrance to Mountain Mall.

Melling was not wearing a seat belt and was pinned in the car. He died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Speed was a factor and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was involved, Leib said.

The accident remains under investigation by the Montana Highway Patrol and Flathead County Sheriff's Office.
