Performers needed for Haiti benefit show

Pat Freebury is looking for talent to perform at a show to benefit the Haiti Mercy Mission in Pignon, Haiti.

A supporter of the mission for many years, Freebury was caught in the 2010 earthquake while visiting the children she supports at the mission. Since then, she has organized benefits and spoken widely about the needs of the mission.

With the talent show, she aims to raise money to help the orphanage finish a much-needed kitchen/dining hall. As orphans flooded in, the organization has outgrown current facilities.

“Children eat in shifts — some having to stand or sit outside,” Freebury said.

The walls have been erected but medical emergencies in the last year drained the money set aside for the cement floor, metal roof and furnishings that she estimates will require $5,000.

At the benefit, Freebury will show a PowerPoint presentation of her December trip to Pignon that highlights the progress made since her trip during the earthquake. The latest trip marked her fourth visit to Haiti Mercy Mission Orphanage.

She needs to hear from people interested in participating in the talent show by Feb. 20.

“I’m looking for talent of all ages — from young to seniors,” Freebury said.

She scheduled the talent show for Sunday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell. Contact her at 752-1153 or by email at gfreebury@centurytel.net.
