| February 20, 2012 6:53 PM

Lorraine K. Hoffman, 94, passed away Feb. 15, 2012, at Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Lorraine was born Feb. 27, 1917, in Rockwell City, Iowa, spending her early life on a farm her grandparents had homesteaded.

She graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1935, and Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) in 1939.

She taught school in Iowa for two years and then hitchhiked to California, where she met and married Allen Hoffman.

In 1944 they moved to Allen's home state of Montana, settling in Whitefish in 1948.

Lorraine taught school in the Whitefish School District for over 35 years. Most of those years were at Whitefish High School, where she touched and influenced many young lives. She retired in 1985.

Lorraine was an avid golfer and an equally avid sports fan, following the Whitefish Bulldogs, Gonzaga, Duke and the University of Washington. She spent countless hours on buses, chaperoning students traveling to Bulldog games.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, in 1980.

She is survived by her son, Greg, of Victor; daughter, Mary Ann Rodman and husband, Gary, of Whitefish; and grandson, Jesse Rodman and wife, Lori, of Tacoma, Wash.

Special thanks go out to DeBourah Morris, Dr. John Kalbfleisch, Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center, and Frontier Hospice for their kindness and care.

Memorials may be made to the Gary Norby Junior Golf Foundation or the Northwest Montana Humane Society.

A private family service will be held this summer.

You are invited to go to www.austinfh.com to offer condolences, share memories and view Lorraine’s tribute wall.

Arrangements are entrusted to Austin Funeral Home.
