Glacier girls top Big Sky in AA basketball

MISSOULA - Glacier opened Western AA girls basketball play on Thursday by whipping Missoula Big Sky 66-49.

The Wolfpack (3-2 overall) was led by Cassidy Hashley, who tossed in a game-high 23 points, and Nicole Heavirland, who tallied 21.

Glacier led 35-24 at the half. The Wolfpack finished that half with a 13-3 run. Hashley had nine points during that burst.

Hashley pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds. Rachel Chery and Tiffany Marks were next for Glacier with 10 each.

The win was the first ever for Glacier over Big Sky (3-3, 0-1).

Big Sky was led by Dani Baker's 14 points.

Missoula Sentinel plays at Glacier on Saturday.

Missoula Sentinel 50, Flathead 34

MISSOULA - Missoula Sentinel outscored Flathead in every quarter but the fourth in posting a 16-point victory in the Western AA opener for both teams.

Sentinel (5-1, 1-0) led 31-17 at the half.

Sentinel was led offensively by Liz Harper and DJ Reinhardt, 12 points each. Olivia Roberts tallied 11.

Emma Andrews was the lone Bravette in double-figure scoring. She finished with 12.

Flathead (3-3, 0-1) hosts Missoula Big Sky on Saturday.

EUREKA - Carli Allen scored 12 of her season-high 16 points in the second half as Eureka throttled Class A Whitefish in a nonconference contest.

Eureka led 13-3 after eight minutes of play and rolled to the easy victory.

Cassidy Morgan added 13 points for Eureka (2-4).

Whitefish (0-6) was led by Ashlee Brewer's five points.

The 46 points for Eureka was also a season best.

"One of our best offensive efforts," Eureka coach R.J. McDole said.

"We also played well defensively."

Columbia Falls 38

BIGFORK - Taylor Peck scored 13 points, had six steals, four assists and seven rebounds as the Bigfork Valkyries downed the Columbia Falls Wildkats in a nonconference game.

The Vals' press caused problems for the Wildkats and Bigfork used that to build a 25-11 halftime lead, but Columbia Falls bounced back with 27 second-half points.

Peck held off the Wildkats by going 6-for-9 in the fourth quarter from the free throw line.

"She had an all-around great game," said Bigfork coach Mark Hansen.

Hope Burlage and Haley Belgarde scored 12 points each for Columbia Falls.

The Vals (6-1) play host tonight to Troy.
